Padrone is produced in honor of Ray Signorello Sr., a visionary whose life was as full of character as our wines. Padrone is
a wine that expresses the utmost quality of the Estate. The grapes for this complex proprietary red wine are sourced from
two extremely rocky parts of the estate vineyard with yields of only a mere 1.3 tons per acre.
Tasting Notes
Aromas of coffee, raspberry creme, and dark
chocolate arise from the glass. Second aromas of fresh tilled
soil and black cherries add to the complex nose. On the palate,
the rich mouth-feel is layered with flavors, raspberries,
and dark chocolate. Toasty oak and a touch of vanilla enhance
the well integrated tannins and impressive length. This is a
balanced wine with power and grace.
Winemaking Notes
Traditional French winemaking practices,
native yeast fermentations, extended maceration (each lot
averaged 30 days on the grape skins) and pump-over's twice a
day. The 2010 vintage aged for 20 months in 75% new Troncais,
Nevers and Alliers oak (thin-staved, medium-plus toast Chateau
Ferre barrels). Tonnelleries: Tarransaud, Saury, Darnajou, and
Nadalie. To preserve fruit intensity and body, the wine was not
filtered prior to bottling on May 12th, 2012.
Harvest Report
A wet winter after the three previous dry
years pushed bud break, flowering and fruit-set back by three
weeks. Luckily, due to a lot of cloud cover, we had very little frost
alerts and no frost damage. Early summer brought cooler than
normal temperatures, so we had a slightly later than average
veraison. Towards the end of August, we were suddenly faced
with a triple digit heat spike, but good canopy management
kept damage to a minimum. Overall, the 2010 vintage looks to
be smaller than in years past, but with excellent fruit quality.
